Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

If you want a perfect smile, but don't want to wear metal braces to correct your teeth, you could consider Invisalign. Invisalign moves your teeth into the correct positions a series of transparent, BPA-free, medical-grade plastic aligners instead of traditional metal brackets and wires.

Dr. Saliba provides Invisalign for teenagers and adults who suffer from a wide range of dental alignment issues, including:

  • Issues like overbite, underbite, and crossbite
  • Spacing issues like gaps and overcrowding
  • Crooked teeth

It's not just about a nice smile. Correcting orthodontic issues can help avoid decay, gum disease and tooth loss in the future. Properly aligned teeth help improve their function and longevity, making them easier to maintain, keep clean and avoid expensive dental issues in the future. What you spend to correct your orthodontic issues, is a fraction of the cost needed to repair/correct problems that arise from the orthodontic issues in the future.

Invisalign orthodontic treatment includes a series of plastic aligners that are custom-made to fit your teeth. The aligners put gentle pressure on them to guide them to new corrected positions.

What happens during Invisalign treatment?

First, Dr. Saliba assesses your teeth to make sure Invisalign is the best treatment to correct your alignment issue. In some cases, severe alignment problems respond better to traditional braces. If you decide to proceed with treatment, your teeth are scanned with an iTiero digital scanner. In the past molds of your teeth were taken. Dr. Saliba prides himself in using the latest and greatest in technology to get the best treatment results for his patients, in the most comfortable and least invasive way. This digital scan of your teeth is emailed to the lab where your custom treatment plan is set up on a software platform before your aligners are fabricated. Then, he takes pictures and molds of your teeth to plan their movement and create your series of custom aligners.

When your aligners are ready, you have an appointment for Dr. Saliba to make sure the aligners fit. You wear each pair for two weeks before changing them out for the next pair of aligners in your series.

You’ll stop into GEMS Dental for a quick bi-weekly appointment for the first two months of your treatment so that Dr. Saliba can check that your teeth are responding as expected, as well as to get your next set of aligners.

After the first two months, Dr. Saliba will know that your teeth are moving as planned. At this point, he gives you three or four sets of aligners that you’ll change at home with checkups every 6-8 weeks until your treatment is complete.

The frequency of your visits depends on your treatment plan to correct your orthodontic issues. No matter what, we do out best to work with your schedule and make sure your treatment is tracking well

Why should I choose Invisalign?

Invisalign offers many benefits that make it a popular orthodontic treatment option. First, unless someone looks closely, they won't see your aligners, as they're nearly invisible.

You can remove your aligners for up to two hours per day so you can eat, drink, and take care of your teeth regularly. While you don’t have to give up any favorite foods, you may find that you snack less since you need to remove your aligners and brush your teeth every time you eat.
