Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin porcelain shells that Dr. Saliba bonds to the fronts of your teeth to create a perfect smile. Veneers are a popular dental treatment because they correct a wide range of dental imperfections such as chips, cracks, gaps, and asymmetric teeth. They’re also an option to cover discoloration that doesn’t respond to topical whitening treatments.

What are the benefits of veneers?

Veneers offer a variety of benefits. For example, as well as being quick and easy to install, veneers are custom-made to fit your teeth precisely to create a picture-perfect smile. Additionally, porcelain is durable and stain-resistant, which means they won't yellow from coffee or other foods and drinks that stain natural teeth. With proper care, your veneers can last between 10 and 20 years.

How are veneers applied?

At GEMS Dental, Dr. Saliba usually applies dental veneers in two visits. At your first visit, Dr. Saliba examines your teeth to confirm that veneers are the most effective treatment to correct your smile.

Then, Dr. Saliba prepares your teeth for your veneers by carefully removing a thin layer of enamel from the tooth or teeth. This ensures that your veneers fit flush against your other teeth, resulting in a natural appearance. Dr. Saliba then takes photos and molds of your teeth which he sends to a dental lab that makes your veneers to fit your teeth precisely. He applies temporary veneers to protect your teeth while you wait for your permanent veneers.

At your second appointment, Dr. Saliba bonds your permanent veneers to your teeth after checking your bite and the fit. After the bonding is complete, Dr. Saliba polishes your veneers and your natural teeth for a healthy shine.

How should I take care of my veneers?

You take care of your veneers the same way you take care of natural teeth — by brushing for two minutes, twice a day, and flossing at least once a day. You should also attend routine dental checkups and professional cleanings.
