Dental Sealants

What are Dental Sealants?

  • Dental sealants are used to protect the surface of the teeth from decay, especially your back molars, which are crucial when it comes to chewing. Dental sealants are when a coating of acrylic is painted onto the tooth in order to seal the surface against decay.
  • The sealants serve to protect the grooves of the teeth from food, which prevents decay from forming, as well as defending against plaque and acid that may cling to the surface of the tooth.
  • Sealants keep the surface of the tooth safe from food particles that may get stuck in the deep grooves and may be difficult to remove by brushing and flossing.
  • Sealants can be applied in as few as ten minutes, as they are simply painted onto the surface. Sealants hold up for many years before they require replacement, as they are made to coat the chewing surface.

Sealants can help both adults and children protect against cavities and other forms of enamel decay.
